The Dangerhounds - Big Bad Wolf EP [Review]

In this review, we will be looking into the new and upcoming band originating from the town of Leeds, called 'The Dangerhounds,' Debut 3-track EP, titled 'Big Bad Wolf EP.' The Dangerhounds originally started out as a 3-piece, before finding a new member to aid them in filling out their sound and making their music more versitile.

The EP itself is a very nicely balanced blend of energy, pace and charisma. It's upbeat and uplifting lyrics mixed in with the high octave guitar chords and riffs really have the pace and the personality to get any indie music fan up and dancing (or jumping if that's more your thing).

MRG's Top Tracks:

3: Stop Crying;

Bold and full of life right from the beginning, the high guitar riff mixed with the lower octave of the bass riff really help to create that extra dimension and make it sound massive, this especially works well in the catchy "DaDa, DaDaDa," breakdown and build up towards the end.

2: Santiago;

A very Strokes-esque song here, absolutely love the energetic start to the song with the fast-paced indie guitar-styled chords, which then flows into a nice open/close hi-hat beat which nicely slow the tempo for the verse, before a little drum fill into an emphatic chorus of catchy lyrics and punchy guitar work.

1: Big Bad Wolf;

The EP titled track, and, in our opinion, the best track on a very strong debut EP. This song is different from the other two tracks on the EP, the others are upbeat and written in a higher octave, whereas this one is very low, dark and powerful, (almost like a Wolf? Don't know if that was meant, but that is the impression that we get). Anyway, I love how the guitar comes in strong straight from the start, but once the verse kicks in, it quietens down into single notes rather than chords. Also have a lot of respect for the vocals in this song, strong and a little gravelly in parts, really brings out the tone of the song well.

So, overall, a very impressive debut EP from the lads from Leeds, and I think I can safely say that if they manage to keep this quality of music coming, that they definitely have a bright future ahead of them!
